Welcome to the Ceramic Emporium Newsletter! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter or this blog for ceramic bisque sales coming to our Etsy Store, Amazon Store, and Haldago Bay. (Glazed pieces.) The main site is the Ceramic Emporium site but we are stocking the other venues first.

As online orders expanded substantially the past several years, we simply can’t pack online orders and assist studio patrons so the studio has been closed. Sales continue to be brisk as we add all the studio merchandise- and Moonlight Madness events are coming soon. Do A Handprint Plate-Acrylics Work Fine!

Do A Handprint Plate

Parents enjoy making dinnerware with their children’s handprint or footprint- that is, if the child will let go of the brush! Paisley decided she really liked the brush and after we wrestled it away, decided NOT to uncurl her fingers. After carefully prying each one out, we got a perfect print! Although this was done in the studio, you CAN do a handprint plate using acrylics. NO, it’s not food safe, but place it on a plate stand after applying a light coat of satin/matte/gloss finish, and what a gorgeous display piece! (Most parents use it for that anyway, and NOT for dining.)

Achieve the look on the rim which was an exotic glaze by using the tip of your pinky finger and making small irregular blobs, then use a toothbrush and splatter over it with three different colors.

The First Handprint

You may also want to check and see if local individuals are available to fire items for you. Studios may not do that but will know of folks who do. However, again- you can do handprint plates with acrylics for decor and NO FIRING IS NEEDED. Have fun- You only get one try with the handprint as you can’t do three coats!

Extra Large Dragon

Extra Large Sitting Dragon

Fun color combination for dragons- browns and greens. Done by a studio customer using Pagoda Green exotic glaze, the Extra Large Sitting Dragon ceramic bisque has green eyes to complement the color. This dragon is in stock off and on, we do not have this mold. If you see in the store, it is available. If not, not.

Toad Riding Turtle

Toad Riding Turtle

The Beach Pebbles glaze works well with many of the crystals used, or a random scattering. The turtle is beautifully done using a modest amount so the details remain quite clear in the face and scales.

Did You Know? A turtle has actually killed someone! In the year 456 B.C., the Greek playwright, Aeschylus was killed when a turtle was dropped on his head by an eagle. Check out these fun Turtle Facts!

This sleek and sexy ceramic bisque Martini glass is so versatile! Although it is a Martini glass, it can be used for parfaits, ice cream, sophisticated sipping of sodas, or even for draping grapes for a social affair. In store October 6, 2010 HOWEVER availability varies- we do not pour this item or keep it in stock routinely, so get them while you can!

Pistachio Frog

The Pistachio glaze is a vibrant green with dark and milk chocolate brown enhancements. We chose it for our frog that graces the fountain at the studio. Obviously, a favorite! (The tree stump uses many exotic glazes- noteably Glowing Embers, Moss Creek, Meteor Shower, Java Bean, Coal Dust.)

This Whimsy Cat unpainted ceramic bisque piece is SO easy to paint- with her smooth sides and back, you can use dots, swirls, stripes, flowers- whatever you want! She’s charming and there’s also a Whimsy Dog which makes a cute set when paired with the ceramic bisque Whimsy Cat.

This unpainted ceramic bisque cat can be found in our studio frequently- but she sells fast!

Ceramic Bisque Lion

This Spaghetti maned lion unpainted ceramic bisque piece is very popular due to his unusual mane. He is poured from a vintage mold and oozes personality. The original casting has thin ribs sticking out; we smooth those out because frankly a starving lion is very sad. Our lion is content, well fed, and ready to be painted!

This ceramic bisque lion is in stock off and on. When he’s on, he goes fairly quickly as he’s vintage and large. Comment if you like this fellow- it helps us to know what we should prioritize crafting for the stores!

Ceramic Bisque Gare Fairy

Fairy unpainted ceramics are a must-have for your spring garden, and this Gare side-sitting fairy is a demure delight! She is enhanced- our ceramic bisque fairy has delicately sculpted fingers, whereas the original sold by other ceramic bisque suppliers simply leave the hands “blocky” and undefined.

We also have the ceramic bisque “woodchip” angel. She looks as if she is carved from wood, with subtle carving marks throughout. A real dream for artists using drybrush techniques!

This reindeer unpainted ceramic bisque piece is making his debut for next Christmas early! (Why wait when there’s something THIS adorable?) He is very easy to paint, and the Christmas tree is roomy- lots of room to paint ornaments, garland, or lights.
